The... read more cabins are immaculate; thoughtfully built and truly something out of a modern architecture magazine. The location - incredible. Laird is a great host who has thought of everything for his guests. We really enjoyed our little chats with him. Cant wait until our next visit!

We stayed 3 nights in the Red Cabin in July. After being in an apartment with no air conditioning in the downtown area for the first week in... read more Whitehorse, this little haven which was just ten minutes from the downtown by car is neatly tucked into the forrest deliberately to give you the impression you are on a getaway in the wilderness, but you aren't really. It is wonderful and it was cool at night, which was a relief in the heat in Whitehorse. Having a modern small house which was cool at night was a treat and it was perfectly set up for us to enjoy. We didn't use the sauna or fire pit as there was no need in the hot summer weather, but we will definitely be back. We enjoyed our morning coffee out in the fire pit area in Adirondack chairs and listened to the birds sing. The host was wonderfully warm and is right on site, so if you need anything - he is just a text away. We will be back to stay again! We loved this place which offers a niche experience.

Full disclosure here-I am Laird’s mom, so I admit to a certain bias, but then perhaps I am also more discerning than the average person! We, Laird’s dad and... read more I, were lucky enough to stay in the green unit for just under a week in April and I was impressed with Laird’s vision and execution. He has always been creative, sculpting a 3 d sheep out of a single piece of wire as a teenager, building a birchbark canoe latterly. This project, as well, is imaginative, using natural light to make compact spaces feel spacious. Each is a little home, with it’s own take on the forest as framed by a very large window, with elevation and outlook affording privacy. Materials reflect Laird’s dedication to environmental preservation-natural plasters, natural oils on fir floors, strawbale walls. The woodwork of the interior of the sauna is beautiful and the lit boardwalk at night is magical. And the location is fantastic-the little lake and all the trails to explore are all so close to town. It is a refuge in a town that is itself a refuge, but is also the gateway to nature that we all so desperately seek. I am certain that Laird will make you most welcome at this special place.

Wonderful stay for two! Our highlights:
Cleanliness: Towels and bedding were fresh. The kitchen and bathroom were spotless on our arrival.
Accuracy of description: All amenities listed on their website were present.... read more Wifi was wicked fast, downloaded 3 podcasts in a couple minutes. Locally roasted coffee was delightful in the morning. Had everything we needed to cook a couple simple meals. After our first sauna visit, booked it right away for 3 more nights. Note that you won't be able to book the sauna via the website on the same day, but can always reach out to Laird via email and ask if it's available. Sauna timeslots provided were hourly between 5pm and 9pm.
Value: Considering the location and the amenities during peak tourist season, we were satisfied with the pricing.
Communication: Laird was responsive via email and anticipated our needs. He provided fresh towels halfway through our stay, and also let us know if we could start our sauna session early (if no one was booked before us).
Arrival: Contactless check-in. Email sent beforehand with all the details we needed and we had no issues.
Location: While there isn't much for walkable options, a car is a must anyway so we were happy with the quick drive to downtown Whitehorse and surrounding attractions (Miles Canyon, Winterlong Brewing, etc.).
Whether you're staying for a couple nights or a week like we did, this place is worth a visit. Sustainably built and managed with a clear eye for design and details. Thank you Laird for a superb cabin stay!

Black Spruce offers a unique, intimate and beautiful stay in Whitehorse. It’s very clear that the cabins were designed and furnished with incredible thought and care, and the opportunity to... read more enjoy the sauna each night was a complete bonus! My daughter and I wished we could stay for weeks and liked the feeling of watching the leaves and trees and playing board games from our bed. While the space is relatively small, it’s more than enough for two, and the kitchen has everything you need. We loved the books about small homes and cabins, too.
We didn’t have a car and were easily able to get there and away by taxi and with the generosity of the owner, Laird, who offered us a lift a few times! On weekdays there is also a city bus that passes nearby, once and hour, and it was great!
The only recommendation I have is to bring bug spray, as the mosquitos in the Yukon are big and hungry, and if you want to enjoy a hike behind the cabins or nearby, you’ll need it.
